Anti-Sway Cage - The strap that keeps the bikes from swaying and hitting each other and the vehicle.
Anti Rattle / Wobble Hitch Pin - A pin used to tighten up a hitch mounted rack in the receiver hitch of a vehicle. This reduces or eliminates the swaying of the rack.
Base Roof Rack - consists of foot pack, load bars and depending on brand a fit kit with Thule or a clip with Yakima.
Bike Bag - Used to cover the bikes when carried on a hitch mounted rack. Keeps the bikes from being covered in road debris such as bugs and tar.
Bike Cradles - The cradle located on the cradle arm. The cradle is what holds the bike.
Bike Tray - A bike carrier used to carry a bike on a roof mounted rack.
Cable Lock - A lock used to lock your bikes to the bike carrier.

Cradle arms - The arms on the rack that support the bike
Draw Bar / Stinger bar - The part of the bike rack that inserts into the vehicles receiver hitch.
Earth Anchor - Used to anchor a bike rack in dirt.
Fairings - A wind guard that is clipped onto the load bars of a roof mounted rack. Used to cut down on wind drag and noise.

Fit Kit - The Thule product that makes the foot pack work with your individual vehicles roof profile.
Foot Pack - The part of the base rack that touches your roof and holds the load bar.
Fork Mounted Bike rack - Bike rack that holds the bike by the forks. The bikes front tire would need to be a "quick release" tire in order to use these racks.
Frame adapter bar - A simple bar with a clamp on either end. It is attached to both the handle bar post on the bike and the seat post to create a straight cross bar to mount the bike on. Generally these are used on female a child's bike
Glass hatch Hook's / hugger's - Used to replace the top hooks and straps of a trunk or rear mounted bike rack to keep the hooks from damaging the vehicle.
Hitch Clearance - The term used to describe the amount of room between the bike rack and the hitch pin hole. This is used to determine whether or not an hitch extender is required.
Hitch extender / Adapter - A bar that inserts into the receiver hitch to give the rack more clearance from the vehicle.
Hitch Lock - A locking hitch pin that allows you to lock the bike rack to your receiver hitch.
Hitch mounted - A term used to describe a hitch mounted vehicle rack. Meaning that the vehicle would need a receiver hitch in order to use the rack.
Hitch pin - A pin that is used to secure the bike rack to the vehicle.
Hitch pin hole - The hole on both the receiver tube and the hitch mounted bike rack that the hitch pin is inserted into to secure the rack to the vehicle.
Hot-dip Galvanized - The process of hot-dip galvanizing results in a metallurgical bond between zinc and steel with a series of distinct iron-zinc alloys, to enhance the corrosion performance of the steel.
Lag Bolts And Shields - Bolts with a plastic shield insert that allows you to mount a commercial bike rack in concrete and at a later date remove the rack and move it if need be.
Load Bar - The load carrying bar that bike trays, kayak racks etc. are attached to.
Load stops - A Thule product used to brace loads on a roof mounted rack.
Locking Cores - Brand specific universal locks.
Pedal Sock - Used to keep the pedals from scratching the paint on your bikes and car and other things the pedals may come in contact with.
Powder Coated - Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin". The powder may be a thermoplastic or a thermoset polymer. It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint.
Protective Pads - Used to protect the vehicle from contact with the bike. As well as bike on bike contact.
Receiver hitch / tube - The hitch accessory for the vehicle that allows it to tow or carry other vehicle accessories such as a bike rack.
Spare Tire Clearance - Term used to describe the distance from the spare tire to the hitch pin hole. This distance is important for picking the right hitch mounted rack.
Spare Tire Rack - A bike rack mounted on the rear mounted spare tire of the vehicle.
Tray Rack - A style of rack that carries the bike by the wheels rather than the cross bar like most traditional racks. Tray racks are traditionally hitch mounted but there have been a couple of trunk mounted tray racks released
Trunk Mounted - A term used to describe a bike rack that is attached to the trunk or rear of the vehicle using straps.
Upright Roof Rack - A roof mounted bike tray that holds the bike by the frame. This is the type of rack used when you cannot "quick release" the front tire.
Wheel hoops / Trays - The hoops that the bike tires rest in on a tray style bike rack.
Wheel Step - A ladder like step that fits around the vehicles tire to allow you to step up for mounting bikes or kayaks on the roof of the vehicle.
Wheel Straps - Used to tie the front wheel to the frame of the bike to keep the front wheel from moving while in transport.
